Tick Control

The Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station recommends spraying for ticks two to four times per year. In the past they recommended spraying once in the spring and once in the fall. Their research has found an increasing tick and species population. Because of this, they now recommend spraying two to four times a year depending on your property situation. Spraying of acaricides, or insecticides for ticks, are the most effective way to reduce ticks.

We offer a two or three spray tick control program, as recommended by the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station:

  • The first application in the spring (May) controls the nymph/larvae population

  • The second application in the fall (September) controls any remaining larvae and emerging adult population

  • An optional third spray in the summer (June) can provide additional protection

    • Recommended for properties that have never had tick control or have had ineffective tick control done.

    • Research has found 70% of Lyme disease cases are reported in June - July and are associated with the nymph stage of ticks.

Currently the most effective, least expensive way of controlling ticks is having your property sprayed with Tempo SC Ultra Insecticide.

spring spray

The springtime spray is targeted towards nymph ticks. This is the tick stage that is most likely to transmit Lyme disease. It should be sprayed for once in May.

The fall spray targets adult blacklegged ticks. It should be sprayed for once in September or early October.

A summer spray is offered around June, but is not necessary for everyone. If your family and pets are outside a lot, or you have a large amount of wild animals passing through your yard, the summer spray can add extra protection and peace of mind.

Areas to treat

We only spray in areas where ticks are known to live. Areas include: where the lawn meets the woods, stonewalls, ornamental plantings, bushes, and ground cover. They do not like short, dry, maintained lawns. They also detect carbon monoxide and movement and will position themselves to those areas. Examples are, along paths, swing sets, benches, mailboxes, garbage cans, railings, and other areas humans and animals come in contact with.

Our unique equipment allows up to provide the best results you can get for tick control. Our spray units are equipped with high pressure pumps that allow us to get penetration into ground leaf litter, shrubs, bushes, and stone walls, a.k.a. “mice hotels”. They have 400 feet of hose, which allows us to reach anywhere on most every property. We cover all necessary areas and vegetation to ensure you get the best results possible. Unlike some companies that spray like pinball machines, we methodically and systematically break down the spraying of your property. With our high pressure pumps, we are able to spray up to 70 feet, allowing for greater coverage, especially in wooded areas.
